 The Indian Institute of Fashion Technology has been set up to impart professional training to students and potential employment seekers for the fashion and apparel industry as well as create a core group of people who are adequately trained to set up their own enterprises thus creating not only job seekers but also job providers.

 LOCATION

Indian Institute of Fashion Technology is located in an excellent location in Vijayanagar which is in the heart of Bangalore city in a spacious building fully equipped with a computer lab and other educational aids including audio and video facilities.

 

PROFILE OF MANAGEMENT

 

The Institute has been founded and run by Mr. B. Vedhagiri, an Ex-Serviceman with post graduate qualification in Economics, Public Relations, Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, Marketing Management, and Business Administration and having Apparel Industry experience as well as in educational administration specific to Apparel Industry training.

 

BOARD OF ADVISORS AND FACULTY

 

The Institute has its own highly qualified and experienced in house faculty as well as distinguished and eminent visiting faculty apart from industry leaders who will be delivering guest lectures and conducting educative and informative seminars. The level of enthusiasm and motivation of our faculty remains a pride of this Institute.

 

The Institute has on its Board of Advisors eminent academicians and apparel industry experts who would also be taking on an active part in training of students in the form of curriculum development, seminars, guest lectures etc. Some of them are:-

 

1.         Dr. R. Ramaswamy, P.hd.,

            Member Board of Advisors and Faculty.

An eminent Apparel technologist with more than 25 years of experience in the apparel industry in India and abroad, and having widely traveled across the globe and well exposed to the latest technological developments in the world. He has been trained in India and abroad in various aspects of apparel technology after working in various capacities including as a President of a leading garment company and having been associated with the world renowned Kurt and Solomon associates in United Kingdom and has presently taken up teaching assignments in NIFT as well as at IIFT Bangalore.

 

 2.         Mr. Manjeet Singh Bakshi, B.E.

            Member Board of Advisors and Faculty.

            An Apparel Technologist and technocrat with an engineering degree and having wide experience in the apparel industry and presently looking after the Indian operation of        M/s. PEGASUS SEWING MACHINE PVT. LTD., at New Delhi.

 

3.         Mr. Randeep Sahani

An apparel technologist and technocrat with rich experience in the implementation of projects related to setting up of garment factories and an authority in India on industrial sewing machines and presently in charge of the Indian operations of M/s. BROTHER INTERNATIONAL SINGAPORE PVT., LTD.,

 

4.         Mr. M.L. Satyanarayana  - B.Sc., MBA     

An eminent textile technologist trained in India and Russia and with over 20 years of experience in both production as well as training. He teaches Textile Technology to post graduate students at IIFT.

 

5.         Mr. Chandrasekhar  

One of Bangalore’s best available talent in the field of Pattern Making. He was formerly Head of Technical Division and Pattern Master at English Blazers, a division of Gokuldas Images, Bangalore. He also handles sewing machine operator training and productivity enhancement training programs.

 

6.         Mr. Jaganatha B.E., 

An expert trainer in achievement motivation and personality development.

 

7.         Prof. P.G. Krishnamurthy – Faculty – Textile Science

A M. Tech holder (with high distinction), 18 years of teaching experience and 30 years of industrial experience. He is a renowned authority on Textiles and Garments in the industry and academic circles. He has the unique distinction of passing his M.Tech Textiles with class first, bagging the gold medal in the first batch of M.Tech of the Anna University Chennai way back in 1960s. He has extensive work experience in textile industry as well as educational institutions teaching for B.Tech and M.Tech both as Professor and Principal in various colleges and has won awards including Gold medals in appreciation of his services.

 

Prof. Krishnamurthy is a certified Quality Auditor as well as an ISO 9000 Lead Assessor. He also has the honour of having worked on various government as well as World Bank projects and assignments. He also teaches Textile Science for regular students as well as EDP participants.

 

8.         Mr. K. Ramaswamy – Faculty – Merchandising and Quality Control      

 

B.Tech rank holder with a Post Diploma in Marketing and Export Management from Bajaj Institute, Bombay and he has 7 years of industrial experience in senior management positions and 20 years of teaching experience in various institutes of repute. Mr. Ramaswamy is also an expert in Apparel Merchandising as well as Quality Control for garment industry. He is presently handling classes for Postgraduate students in Retail Management, Apparel Merchandising, Marketing and Quality Control. He is also imparting training for corporate courses and entrepreneurship development programmes at IIFT.

 

10.       Ms. Viveka Kulkarni .K – Faculty – Fashion Designing

 

A Post Graduate Diploma holder in Fashion Technology, from National Institute of Fashion Technology – SOFT, Pune and has extensive experience in freelance Fashion Designing as well as successfully running a boutique. She also has been in previous assignment functioning as a Merchandiser in a reputed garment export house in Bangalore. She also has teaching experience in the areas of Fashion Designing as well as Textile Designing. She is presently functioning as a faculty incharge of the Diploma in Fashion Designing and Boutique Management program.

 

11.       Ms. Komala M.R. – Faculty – Sewing Technology and Fashion Design

 

A 3 year Diploma holder in Apparel Design and Fashion Technology from the Karnataka Technical Exam Board. She has extensive experience in teaching. She has also done her BBA (Fashion Technology).

 

12.       Mr. Rajesh – Faculty – Industrial Engineering and Operations Research

 

A Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering and Management who has both teaching as well as industrial experience in the garment industry. He has also served in various capacities in the garment industry.

 

13.       Ms. Shivagami – Faculty – Production Technology

 

A 3 year B.Sc., (Costume Design and Fashion Technology) from Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore and PG in advanced Apparel Production Management from ALT, Bangalore. She has extensive teaching and work experience.

 

14.       Ms. Tanima Sehgal – Faculty – Fashion Designing

 

A 1 year Diploma holder in Textile Designing and 1 year Diploma in Fashion Designing from NIFD, Jamshedpur. She has extensive experience in teaching.

 

15.       Ms. Padmini S.A. – Faculty – Fashion Designing

 

A 3 year Diploma holder in Apparel Design and Fashion Technology from the Karnataka Technical Exam Board. She has experience working in a boutique as a designer and also has managed a boutique.

 

16.       Ms. Bindu Nanda Kumar – Faculty – Fashion Designing

 

A 3 year Diploma holder in Apparel Design and Fashion Technology from the Karnataka Technical Exam Board and also a diploma holder in Merchandising and Computer Aided Drafting from Royal School of Fashion and has extensive teaching experience.

17.       Ms. Shalu Jain – Faculty –Fashion Designing

 

A Post Graduate Diploma in Fashion Designing from Meerut and One year Diploma holder in Computer Aided Fashion Designing from Arena  Multimedia. She has also been a freelance designer in various boutiques at Delhi and her designs have been presented at various fashion shows.

 

18.       Mr. Ravikumar – Faculty – Production Management

           

A Post Graduate Degree holder in Public Administration, Personnel Management and Industrial Relations and a Diploma holder in Labour and Law Administration. He has 15 to  20 years of experience in the garment industry at both technical and managerial positions. He is teaching Production Management at Indian Institute of Fashion Technology on a part time basis to the Post Graduate students. He is currently working as a General Manager in one of the India’s leading Garment Export Unit.

 

19.       Mr. Srikath S.V. – Faculty

 

A B.Tech Holder in Textiles, with additional Diplomas from NIFT. He has rich experience in the garment industry. He is currently working as a Merchandiser for one of the leading industry in Bangalore. He teaches at IIFT on a part time basis.

 

20.       Mr. Nagbhushan – Faculty – Merchandising

 

He is a faculty with an engineering background and has been working as a merchandiser for past 9 years. He is currently working as the Deputy Merchandising Manager for one of the leading industries in Bangalore. He teaches merchandising at IIFT on a part time basis.

 

21.     Mr. John J.G. Irvine – Faculty Production Technology/ Industrial Engineering

 

Mr. John J.G. Irvine, a British National, from Scotland is a Bachelor’s degree holder in Production Engineering and Management Studies from United  Kingdom (Britain). He has a vast Technical and Managerial experience in the garment industry in the areas of Industrial Engineering, Production Technology and Quality Management. He has over 25 years of experience as General Sewing Data professional. He is currently the Vice President – Production of one of India’s leading Garment factory. He is teaching at Indian Institute of Fashion Technology on part time basis.

 

PROFILE OF MANAGEMENT

 

1.         MR. B. VEDHAGIRI

            DIRECTOR

The Institute has been founded and run by Mr. B. Vedhagiri, an Ex-Serviceman with Post Graduate qualification in Economics, Public Relations, Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, Marketing Management, and Business Administration and having Apparel Industry experience as well as in educational administration specific to Apparel Industry training. He has been activity engaged in promoting the concept of training and productivity increase in the apparel industry through out the country. He has undertaken extensive tours of the country including major cities of the North East India like Guwahati in Assam, Shillong in Maghalaya, Kohima in Nagaland, Imphal in Manipur and Aizawal in Mizoram. Apart from management of the day-to-day administration of the Institute, he is also involved in imparting training in the fields of Personality Development, Supervisory and Management skills training, Retail Management, Boutique Management, Marketing Management, Human Resource Development, and Entrepreneurship development training programs. He is also incharge of handling consulting operations as well as out reach programs.

 

2.         MRS. VAIDEHI SOMASUNDRAM

            JOINT DIRECTOR AND HUMAN RESOURCE TRAINER

 

She is a Postgraduate in Sociology, with specialized training in Industrial Psychology, Industrial Relations, and Personnel Management. She has extensive experience in the industry as a Human Resource professional with specialization in Training and Counseling. She is presently involved in the day-to-day operations of Indian Institute of Fashion Technology in the capacity of Joint Director. She also imparts training in the areas of Personality Development, Communication skills, Leadership and Motivation training, Supervisory skills development and Management skills as well as entrpreneurship training.

 

3.        MS. TABASSUM JAN – MANAGER TRAINING

 

A Post Graduate Diploma holder in Fashion Technology & Apparel Manufacturing Technology. She is a Gold Medalist and has extensive experience in industry as well as in teaching professions. She has been trained in production planning and scheduling in her previous assignment and was engaged in the sampling department of the renowned Madura garments group. She is presently heading the Training functions of the Institute and is responsible for all Corporate Training program as well as Head of the teaching department. She also teaches Fashion designing, Garment Manufacturing Technology, Sewing Machine Operator training, Industrial Pattern Making, Computer Aided Designing, Boutique Management classes for Undergraduate as well as Postgraduate students and also handles corporate courses as well as entrepreneurial development programs at IIFT.

 

4.         AKHILA. S.R.

            PUBLIC RELATION OFFICER

 

A Postgraduate in Management, she is responsible for the operations of the Institute including Marketing, Public Relations and general administrations.

 

5.         KAVYA PRASHANTH

            CAREER COUNSELLOR

 

A Postgraduate in Human Development, she is responsible for the various counseling activities undertaken by the Institute.

 

OUR INFRASTRUCTURAL FACILITIES

 

The Indian Institute of Fashion Technology is housed in a spacious building with state of art class rooms fully equipped with modern seating facilities as well as white boards and other audio visual aids. We have a spacious shop floor laboratory for conducting practical training. The Institute has adequate machinery and equipment for practical classes. The Institute is equipped with both Indian make industrial sewing machines with motor as well as Industrial heavy duty power operated imported sewing machines, the Institute also has pattern making and cutting tables in different dimensions which are used in garment factories. The Institute also has other laboratory equipment for conducting effective practical classes. The Institute also has a pattern display board, which houses the latest pattern library. The Institute also has a modern computer lab with an advanced computers for conducting computer aided designing practicals and also for training the students in computer aided presentation skills and also for displaying CD ROM movies presentations and movie shows on modern manufacturing processes in the developed western countries.

 

The Institute also has library with the latest books and periodicals on the fashion and apparel industry. The Institute also has been procuring the latest and advanced technology books from Germany. The Institute is presently training students based on the study material and texts followed section filled with personality development and business management books. The Institute library is also regularly subscribing to Apparel Online, Stitch World, Apparel Views, Needle Craft etc., and leading periodicals for the apparel industry.

 

The Indian Institute of Fashion Technology has entered into a collaboration agreement to conduct Fashion Technology training in the premises of the following reputed colleges by offering technical support, curriculum development, faculty support, installation of sewing machines, lab equipment, study material as well as conduct of courses at:

3)      Jyothi Nivas College for Women, Bangalore.

4)      S.J.R. College for Women, Bangalore.

CONSULTANCY SERVICES

 

IIFT also provides consultancy services for setting up of garment production units, Fashion Designer boutiques, revival of sick garment factories and for setting up of institutes of higher learning in the fashion and apparel industry.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS

 

FIFTEEN DAY EDP TRAINING PROGRAM FOR RURAL WOMEN ON LADIES DRESS MAKING AT DHARMASTALA (KARNATAKA) FROM 29.10.2001 TO 12.11.2001.

 

We have successfully rendered technical assistance to SMALL INDUSTRIES SERVICE INSTITUTE, MINISTRY OF SSI AND ARI, GOVT. OF INDIA and SRI DHARMASTHALA KSHETRA RURAL DEVELOMENT PROJECT for conducting a self employment-training program for rural women in Fashion Dress Making at the RUDSET Institute at Ujjere, where a total twenty rural women along with ten self help group supervisors were trained on ladies dress making. At the end of the training program the participants produced around 113 garments in 15 days and put it up for exhibition cum sale. This kind of a result oriented training helped us prove our mettle and received appreciation from both RUDSET Institute at Ujjere including the Executive Director Mr. Somashekar and also from the then Director, Small Industries Service Institute Bangalore, Late Shri. M. Mahabala.

 

A THIRTY DAY EDP TRAINING PROGRAM ON GARMENT MANUFACTURING AND MARKETING FOR VRS OPTEES OF CENTRAL PUBLIC SECTOR UNDERTAKINGS FROM 05.03.2002 TO 09.04.2002

 

We have successfully conducted a 30 day EDP program on Garment Manufacturing and Marketing for VRS Optees of Central Government Public Sector Undertakings in association with small Industries Service Institute, Ministry of SSI and ARI, GOVT. OF INDIA. A total number of 54 participants undertook this training and most of them are in the process of setting up their own ventures.

 

A THIRTY DAY EDP TRAINING PROGRAM ON GARMENT MANUFACTURING AND MARKETING FOR VRS OPTEES OF CENTRAL PUBLIC SECTOR UNDERTAKINGS FROM 11.11.2002 TO 31.12.2002

 

We have conducted a forty-day EDP program on garment manufacturing and marketing for VRS optees of Central Government public sector undertakings in association with Small Industries Service Institute, Ministry of SSI, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA. A total of 51 participants are undergoing the program. This program was attended by Small Industries Service Institute as well as Mr. Unni Krishnan, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Govt. of India who personally visited the Indian Institute of Fashion Technology and appreciated the efforts of the faculty members and the standard and quality of training being imparted to the participants.

 

A THIRTY DAY EDP TRAINING PROGRAM ON GARMENT MANUFACTURING AND MARKETING FOR VRS OPTEES OF CENTRAL PUBLIC SECTOR UNDERTAKINGS FROM 21.03.2005 TO 04.04.2005

 

We have completed a forty-day EDP program on garment manufacturing and marketing for VRS optees of Central Government public sector undertakings in association with Small Industries Service Institute, Ministry of SSI, Government OF INDIA. A total of 20 participants underwent the program.

 

MINISTRY OF DEFENCE TRAINING PROGRAMS

 

Indian Institute of Fashion Technology is the only Institute in the country to be approved by the Ministry of Defence for conducting Resettlement Training Programs for military personnel in the area of Garment Manufacturing and Marketing.

 

RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS OF IIFT / WORLD BANK AIDED PROJECTS

 

Indian Institute of Fashion Technology entered into an agreement with the Karnataka Women Development Corporation (a Govt., of India Undertaking) to conduct a 15 day skill development training program on Fashion Dress Making and Marketing to self help group members of the SWASHAKTI project (A World Bank and International for Agricultural Development aided project of the Central Government)

 

The training was conducted from 01 Jan 2004 till 05 Mar 2004 at three districts in Karnataka i.e., Kolar, Chitradurga and Bellary. 350 women were trained in the above residential training program in the First phase. Each of the participants were trained to make seven garments along with value addition, surface ornamentation, embroidery. They were also exposed to Industrial power operated machine training.

 

In the second phase it is proposed to select active and deserving participants and train them on Industrial power operated sewing machine and help them set garment factories in each of the above districts and support them in marketing their produce.

 

CORPORATE TRAINING PROGRAMS

 

Indian Institute of Fashion Technology also conducts corporate training programs on various topics for employees of the Garment Industry. The latest program conducted was for M/S. Mondial Orient (India) Ltd, a MNC buying house at Tirupur, where IIFT trained 22 of its officer’s and staff on a five days training program.

  

CERTIFICATION OF COURSES AT IIFT

 

The One year Diploma in Fashion Designing and Boutique Management and the One year Weekend Diploma in Garment Manufacturing and Merchandising are presently being certified by the Small Industries Service Institute, Ministry of Small Industries, Govt. of India.

 

IIFT BRANCH AT HYDERABAD

 

Indian Institute of Fashion Technology has opened a branch at Hyderabad in Feb 2005. They conduct the one year Diploma in Fashion Designing and Boutique Management which are certified by Small Industries Service Institute, Ministry of Small Industries, Government of India.
